Help to study for my degree

Tags: favours of the founder of Opus Dei
During the time leading up to my university selection exam I asked St Josemaría with great faith and devotion to intercede for me before God our Father that He might grant me serenity when I was doing the exam. After it was over, came the University admissions procedure. Due to my family’s money problems, which with God’s help we are finding a way out of, I couldn’t pay for the course at some of the Universities where I wanted to study. Again I had recourse to St Josemaría to help me, and today I can state with the utmost certainty, faith, confidence and security that he granted the favors I asked of him. I shall always carry in my heart deep gratitude to him. To end up, I am studying for the degree in law (which is the one I always wanted) at a University that I really like. Thank you, St Josemaría!

A legacy that got us out of trouble
I wanted to write and say thank you to Saint Josemaría Escriva for a favor he obtained for us. I am married with two small children. For the past few months we’ve been going through a very difficult period with regard to money – in fact, desperate. From the start I prayed through St Josemaría’s intercession to find a solution. When we were getting to the end of the third novena, we heard that an aunt of mine who died some months before had left us a legacy, which gave us a breathing-space and got us out of trouble quite miraculously. I cannot doubt that it was this relief was due to the intercession of St Josemaría, founder of Opus Dei. Thank you. And may God continue to bless Opus Dei and all the faithful who belong to it. Best wishes,

Go to work by car and get home safe and sound
December 26 I had to make a trip of fifty km from where I live to make a statement in court as an expert witness. If I failed to appear the case would be dismissed, with consequent harm to many people. When I started the car I realized that the steering was faulty. I drove slowly as far as the church where I normally hear Mass. After Mass I asked St Josemaría: “may I go to work in my car and get home safe and sound, but not my will but God’s Will be done.” In the conviction that my prayer had been granted I started the motor, but the fault had not disappeared. So, very slowly and with infinite care, without losing hope, I drove to the local garage where my make of car is serviced. In spite of my not having an appointment they mended the fault in record time and for a ridiculously low price, plus notable friendliness on the part of the garage employees. It goes without saying that I arrived in time to make my statement and got home safe and sound. I give thanks accordingly for the favor received.

I’ve had a permanent job since December 13
I am writing to make known a new favour from St Josemaría Escrivá de Balaguer, the founder of Opus Dei. I’m a primary school teacher but I didn’t have a permanent job because my husband and I thought it was better if I stayed at home to look after our baby. Having the opportunity to look after my first daughter myself was wonderful, but after some time, as our expenses increased and my husband’s income decreased for various reasons, we were in an extremely difficult situation financially. I took several temporary supply teaching jobs, but they didn’t solve our problem. My husband and I were really worried. Finally, when our situation was really desperate, encouraged by my confidence in St Josemaría who has already got me out of several tight spots, I began a novena. The day after I finished it, on December 13 2007, I had a call from an old friend from university offering me a permanent job. I’ve signed the contract and start teaching in January, after Christmas. It was unquestionably St Josemaría who found me this new job, and I will be forever grateful to him for it.

We prayed with great faith
My father-in-law battled with cancer of the colon for two years, supported by all of us. He went to God on October 2. What gives us serenity is the fact that we did everything humanly possible and also prayed to St Josemaría for him right from the start, with great faith and lots of love. And God brought his sufferings to an end on the very day that St Josemaría had founded Opus Dei. It was a real sign to our family that our prayers had indeed reached our Lord through St Josemaría’s intercession. We got the prayer-cards through my brother, who takes part in Opus Dei activities. Thank you very much.

Now I have a job I like
I did the Novena for Work that’s on your website, and now I have a job I like. It gives me the opportunity to serve others, and I can help my husband with the upkeep of the large family that God has given us. Thank you, Saint Josemaría and also Don Alvaro, to whom I also prayed to get the right job.

A sweepstake
At work we set up a “sweepstake”, a sort of lottery when we each put in a fixed amount of money every month, and everyone drew tickets to win the money. I took three numbers: one for my dad, one for my mum and one for me. The first month I began to pray the prayer-card of St Josemaría to ask him to work the miracle that I would win, so that I could give my dad the money, which he needed urgently. I prayed hard and drew a winning number! I was so happy! The second month I did the same: I started praying that my mum would get the winning number, and she did! Then I said, “Father Josemaría, you answered my prayers for my parents, just give me whatever number you like, I’m not in need – what mattered were my parents.” And my number came next to last. I owe everything to my Saint Josemaría.

My passion for my career and education
I began to look into Opus Dei a few years ago, and more so after the controversy surrounding the book. After reading for the first time the writings of this saint, of whom I had never heard, I fell in love! I had finally found a way to incorporate my passion for Christ into my passion for my career and education. St. Josemaria had such a great way of making me understand my part in the Church. After praying for his intercession at my place of employment for just a few weeks, I was offered the opportunity to train the next class of new technicians! St. Josemaria still works tirelessly on our behalf!

My prayer was answered
Even though this testimony happened a long time ago, I have to share it because I promised Saint Josemaria that I would. My elder brother's wife gave birth to her first son through an operation, so when the time came for her to give birth to their second child, things became so complicated. I was living with them then, and I picked up the prayer-card which was given to me by my sister and started praying it, asking St Josemaria to intercede on our behalf that my brother's wife would give birth without having to undergo another operation. My prayer was answered, as my sister-in-law gave birth without any operation. We are very grateful to Saint Josemaria for having interceded on our behalf. I hope to write back very soon as there is something I am presently asking from God through the intersession of Saint Josemaria and our mother the Blessed Virgin Mary.

I found a job in November and got married in December
In the autumn of 2002 I was given a prayer-card of St Josemaría in a church in Valladolid. I was looking for a job and getting ready for my wedding. I’d just taken my degree, and my parents weren’t happy about me getting married before I’d got a job. But my fiancé was really keen for us to get married as soon as possible. I was quite stressed with trying to please everyone, which was impossible. I entrusted the question of the job to St Josemaría. In November 2002 I found a job and started work, and in December I got married. I consider that St Josemaría helped me with his intercession in this complicated situation, and I thank him for it publicly.

Money problems
We were going through some serious money problems, and I was unable to sleep, stressed all day long, and quarrelled with my wife every day over tiny things. I applied to my employers for a loan, and prayed to St Josemaría with great faith that I would get it. My application was granted. Thank you, Father!

Several hours of quiet and rest
Our first baby was born a week ago. We are truly happy, but it’s always a bit hard at the beginning, when the baby cries all night… However, the prayer to St Josemaría, said with trust, gained us several much-needed hours of quiet and rest. Thank you, St Josemaría!

I was unemployed
I was unemployed, and desperate, as my sons were at University. I came across a newspaper article about our Saint Josemaría Escrivá de Balaguer. It was something I can’t explain: with the newspaper in my hand I felt a sensation of peace and tranquillity. And although I didn’t know much about Saint Josemaría Escrivá, I trusted him totally, I prayed and soon afterwards I received a job offer both for myself and for my wife. Now I have a better position thanks to the miracle of our Saint Josemaría Escrivá. Bless him and everyone connected with him! I tell my friends about this miracle, and they always want to know more. I pray that St Josemaría may continue obtaining blessings for my family and friends. There is so much to tell!

My brother
Hi, I want to send in my testimony about what happened to my elder brother. He was always very quiet and reserved, and dedicated to his family, until he met a girl who had no idea about families, or how to behave. He changed completely – he was always out, aggressive to everyone, rude, he seemed like a different person. My parents and I tried to talk with him but he never listened.
I was curious to know about Opus Dei, and after getting to know some people in Opus Dei among some families we met on holiday, my interest grew still greater and I went on finding out more, until I found my ‘protecting Angel’, Saint Josemaría. I prayed for his help for my brother, asking him to sort out his life.
From that time on, a year ago, my brother has gone back to being how he was before: gently, friendly, and fun. It was Saint Josemaría who interceded before God for my brother, and I’m so grateful to him. Thank you, Saint Josemaría!

If I wrote down all the favours in detail it would fill a book …
I have always received favours through St. Josemaría’s intercession. If I wrote them all down it would fill a book. One of the biggest that comes to mind is that a doctor told me that I must not get pregnant, because a problem with my uterus meant that it would be high risk. Thank God, through the intercession of St. Josemaría, this was not the case, and I now have a five-year-old daughter.
Another very great favour was when she was one, she fell seriously ill, with a high temperature day and night, and the doctors kept telling me ‘undiagnosed,’ ‘undiagnosed’… they examined her, did all sorts of tests, examined her again, until finally, thanks to St. Josemaría’s intercession, a doctor told me, ‘all she has is a throat infection, but she’s resistant to some antibiotics,’ and she got better!
My husband was studying for a doctorate and had to interrupt his studies because of family problems, and he was allowed to defer the degree with his grant instead of having to repay it. He just couldn’t believe it, but it was true, thanks to St. Josemaría’s intercession! Thank you!
Another day I left a lamp burning because I had a very difficult exam and I forgot to put the lamp out when I went out. I came back really late because I’d stayed in the library to study, and to my surprise I saw that the desk and several things were burnt but the prayer-card of St Josemaría and a holy picture of the Blessed Virgin were only scorched at the edges, and the fire had not spread any further, though there was some alcohol just beside it. The plastic shade had melted into a ball, but by a miracle the building where I live had not burned down! Right now I have three serious problems: we are waiting with great faith for St. Josemaría to help us.

Park without holding up the traffic or scratching the automobile
St Josemaría is a good driver. I’ve been driving for several years now, but I find it difficult to park when I have to reverse, as for instance to get into our garage, which is quite small.
Normally my husband is the one who parks the automobile, but sometimes I have to go out alone. On the way I always start praying the prayer-card, and my petition is that I will be able to park in the garage without holding up the traffic or scratching the automobile. And St Josemaría always helps me – sometimes I’m surprised at how well I park!

A house
I would like to thank St Josemaría for the favor of having found a house at a very low price close to my children’s schools, just as we asked him. If it is God’s will, we’ll write again soon about selling our apartment. St Josemaría, keep helping us, and thank you very much!

He helps me to be strong
When I first asked Monsignor Escrivá to intercede for us, God helped us greatly to regain the peace of mind that I was praying for at that difficult time. Afterwards, when I asked for his help again, I always found the miracle I needed. I think that the most valuable thing of all has been that his inspiration has strengthened me in my principles, so that I’m not afraid to say that my faith is stronger than any attack. Being Catholic commits us to holiness.

In a Mumbai rickshaw
I accidentally left my notebook in a rickshaw one day. Inside it I had a prayer-card of St Josemaría with a relic. I was praying to him for the cure of my father, who was seriously ill, as well as many other intentions. I was really sorry to have lost it, but I thought there was no chance of finding it again. There are thousands and thousands of rickshaws in my city, Mumbai, where they operate as taxis. What is more, the number of Christians here is very small indeed, so who was going to bother with a picture of a Catholic priest?
And yet to my great surprise, the rickshaw driver turned up one day at the Institute where I work, whose address he had found in my notebook. He explained that someone had given him a prayer-card just like that some time before, and had told him that the picture was of a saint who intercedes for our needs before God. And so he thought that I must value my copy of the prayer-card very highly, and decided to bring it back. I was so grateful!
I first heard about the founder of Opus Dei five years ago. When Tarana, a Hindu friend of mine, gave me my first prayer-card of St Josemaría, I never imagined that this priest would come to be so important to me.
I had been looking for work for some time at that stage, so when I read in the words of the prayer that he had founded a “way to holiness through daily work”, I said to him, “Suppose you help me to find some work to do?”
And he did. I was asked to go for an interview at a Spanish Institute where I still work today, in Public Relations. I am sure that St Josemaría had a lot to do with it, because later on I learnt that my friend Tarana had been given the prayer-card by one of the people who worked at the Institute, to give to me.
With the example of this colleague and also thanks to the writings of St Josemaría, I have learnt to offer my work to God and so I try to do it better all the time. I realised that although I had been blessed by being born into a Catholic family, I knew very little about my faith, so I started going to classes of Christian formation. As time went by I discovered my vocation to Opus Dei, and two years ago I asked for admission as a Supernumerary.
St Josemaría never ceases to help me, in little things and in big. I don’t think I’m exaggerating when I say he saved my life. The monsoon season in Asia brings rain, but there hadn’t been rain like last year’s for a long time. Thousands of people died in the floods in India, and many more lost their homes. One of those days I got on the bus as usual. It was raining extremely hard and after a few minutes we had to stop because the water was entering the bus. The water-level kept on rising and we couldn’t do anything. The bus doors were held shut by the pressure of the water around it, so we couldn’t get out. We spent the night there. I was praying to St Josemaría all the time, though I couldn’t imagine how he could save us from our fate. But just as the water was reaching danger-level – the rain stopped.

My companion and friend Saint Josemaría
I first heard about Saint Josemaría in 2003, when I was in Austral Hospital in Pilar, Argentina. The sickness I was suffering from had seemed benign at first, but the doctors were unsure and I was very scared. Everything turned out well, today it is no more than a bad dream, and from that time on I keep Saint Josemaría beside me in my bedroom; I always invoke his intercession and ask him for favors.
A fortnight ago my mother had an operation, and after it the surgeon told us that they had removed a large tumour and that it was ovarian cancer; they would not commit themselves on a prognosis. It was the beginning of Calvary for my family. Today, October 10, 2007, in the morning, I began to speak about my mother to Saint Josemaría. I also found a recording of the homily he gave at the University of Navarre and listened to it with great attention. I prayed very hard to God through my companion Saint Josemaría.
Around mid-day I met the pathologist who was doing the biopsy, which we already knew, from what the doctors and she herself said, was not good. But she called me over and told me that the result was benign. How was that possible, when the doctors who did the operation saw it and said it was malignant? She herself, when she started on the biopsy, had said it looked bad. This inexplicable mystery has just one explanation for me: who was the person who interceded for my mother? My companion and good friend Saint Josemaría. How can I thank him for all of this?

I have not ceased to receive his help
I want to give heartfelt thanks for St Josemaría’s intercession in different events in my life for a whole year. A friend in Opus Dei gave me a prayer-card with the photo of St Josemaría and the prayer for his intercession. I asked her to give me more prayer-cards, and in gratitude for all the favors St Josemaría grants me, I am giving them out to the people I know, and telling them about the great trust I have in him. Thank you for your help, St Josemaría, with all my heart.

Thanks to his intercession
Dear friends, I am writing to share my happiness and gratitude to Saint Josemaría. I visited this website and printed off the prayer for Saint Josemaría’s intercession, because my husband was taking a competitive examination for a job. Thanks to his intercession my husband was successful. I had already heard about the help that the founder of Opus Dei gives when people pray to him with faith and trust in God. My sister had problems in her pregnancy and after praying through Saint Josemaría’s intercession she went for a doctor’s appointment and found that miraculously, everything was fine. Thank you, Saint Josemaría! I will spread the news. All good wishes to you.

God is truly wonderful
I was introduced by a friend to Opus Dei. My friend gave me a prayer card which at first I didn't pray but later I started praying it. From the recollections and a retreat conducted by the centre I learnt what it meant to offer your work to God. So I started offering my work to God. I had waited for over a year and a half for a pay raise and nothing had happened to a point that I asked my bosses about it since it was part of my contract with the company. When I got no response I gave up. So out of the blue my boss asked me about what I wanted to be done for me. I told him nothing. He really insisted like on three occasions and I still told him nothing and I always gave him the reason that what I wanted I had asked but when I got no reply I gave up. At one point my boss went for a meeting with the MD and when he returned to the office he gave me a letter and in it my pay check had been doubled. Truly this was done by God through the intercession of saint Josemaria who knew that I needed a salary increment even when I did not specifically pray for it. God is truly wonderful for his love endures forever.

A small matter
I have only recently learned about St. Josemaria so this is my first experience with gaining his intercession. After finding his prayer card on the website, I asked him for help on a matter which is small compared to many of the testimonies listed here. It was to help me find a voucher for a free airline ticket that I had received from an airline almost a year ago. I had misplaced this voucher when I moved last year and since it expires in another month, I was urgently trying to find it to use it on an upcoming trip. After spending a day and a half going through my storage unit and opening dozens of moving boxes, I remembered that I had St. Josemaria's prayer card. I asked him to help me find the voucher without delay. After saying my prayer, my attention was drawn to a box that was set apart from my other boxes - which I had completely overlooked. Sure enough, my airline voucher card was there - in a completely different envelope than I remembered it. Thanks to Saint Josemaria I will now be able to use this on a business trip I must take very soon.

I got my benefits back
I prayed for St Josemaría’s intercession not to lose my unemployment benefits when I had to go abroad for a month. But when I got home I found they had stopped my benefits. I felt upset and worried about it. I prayed to St Josemaría because he knows why I had to make that trip abroad. I got a phone call from a good man in the Benefits Office who I didn’t know, who said he could help. When I got back I went to see him and he did help. It was my Guardian Angel. I was sure that it was help from heaven that solved my problem. So I thank St Josemaría for interceding for me. Bless him!

Out of danger
During the last tee-ball season my 6 year old daughter got hit in the head with a baseball bat at practise. We had to take her to the emergency room for treatment. When the X-rays of her head was
read a spot showed up on her brain. We were told to have an MRI scheduled to more identify the spot. An MRI was done and my wife scheduled an appointment at Children's Hospital in Houston, Texas. During this time my family prayed to Saint Josemaria Escriva for his intercession to make the spot on the x-ray not life threatening for our daughter. When the results of the MRI was read we were told it was a non life threating developmental cyst. My family is thankful to Saint Josemaria for protecting our daughter.

A new person
For the past three years my younger brother had changed from being a gentle being to a rough brute. He had begun to give up on life and attempted to end his life several times. I prayed fervertly to the Lord and asked St. Escriva to intercede for me. Finally after several months, he has made a complete turn around in his life and become a new person. I look at him and see a strong person. Thank you St. Escriva for helping him make this break through. Finally my brother is at peace with himself and the world and has come back to the Lord. Thank you.

Two in one
We made a trip to Europe to pray for my wife’s recovery from an illness. We went to Rome, to the church of Our Lady of Peace where the mortal remains of St Josemaría are buried, and we were given a prayer-card of St Josemaría. The following day we went on to Madrid and at 11.30 at night we were in the Metro with four suitcases. We were held up by some robbers and one of them got his hand in my wife’s bag before she realized; she was carrying money and jewelry in it. When she opened her bag, the first thing she saw was the prayer-card of St Josemaría, all crumpled, and nothing had been stolen. Thank you for this and for her cure.

Thank you
I am writing to thank St Josemaría, the founder of Opus Dei, because his writings have nurtured me in a deep interior life and a desire to help the people around me learn about the call to holiness in the middle of the world. I also wish to thank St Josemaría for Msgr. Emilio Bonell, recently deceased, whom I had the pleasure of knowing, because he, following St Josemaría’s teachings, also fostered my interior life and strengthened the call to sanctity.

A prayer-card dropped in a train
I left my town to take part in a competitive examination that I thought was going to be impossible: out of 11,000 candidates only 3,500 would go on to the next stage. None of the competitive exams I took in the past ever went well for me. The morning I set out I looked at my Mom and said, ‘Mom, tell me if I’m wasting my time. If you tell me not to go, I won’t – I’m downhearted, and that’s no way to take an exam.’ My Mom knows how much I want to get into the police, so she encouraged me to go ahead and take the exam. On the train I picked up a picture of a Saint I never heard of. I began reading the words of the prayer, and I realized that man had committed his life to what he believed in. I could see myself in him. I read the prayer to the end where it says about asking for a favor to be granted through the Saint’s intercession. I just said, ‘I’d like to be happy. See what you can do.’ Then I said the Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be. As I write this I still am overwhelmed, regardless of the results of the exam. I am so happy to have found St Josemaría. Anyway, I will let you know the result.

Through the Internet
“That wound is painful. But it is well on its way to being healed. Be firm in your resolutions, and the pain will soon turn into joy and peace” (The Way, 256). These were the first words by St Josemaría that I read, through the internet, five years ago. I had done a search to find out more about Opus Dei because I had seen a testimony on television by a woman talking about her life as a wife and mother, who also had a job outside the home. She told how Opus Dei had helped her to achieve inner stability. This conflicted a bit with what I had heard about the Work up until then. But I definitely wanted to know the method to acquire that same stability. At that point I was 23, married, and with a son, Angelo. I was in my final year at college, and felt frustrated because I hadn’t yet found the right balance in the different aspects of my life.
When I found the website about the Work I spent some time reading bits of it. I revisited it several times over the next two months, and subscribed to the e-mail newsletter. Some time afterwards I plucked up my courage and contacted Opus Dei to express my interest in it. I got an immediate, very polite reply, which included some words by St Josemaría that were key for me just at that time. I hadn’t expected all that.
I kept up this e-mail correspondence with a member of Opus Dei for a while, and it helped me. I understood the true importance of my role as wife and mother. My husband and I decided to have a second baby, Gianna. Later on, after our third baby, Paolo, was born, I didn’t find the time to keep up the correspondence. About a year ago I got in contact again, and asked for “formation” – that was the very word I used, I said “I wish to receive formation, please.” This time the reply came inviting me to go to an Opus Dei Center. That was how I found Ausangate, an Opus Dei center in Lima, and began to take part in the means of Christian formation there, which helped me and did me a lot of good. There I discovered that the path to holiness is not something foreign to me. It isn’t easy, but it isn’t impossible either. I try to practice tidiness, self-control, persistence, helpfulness, and hope, among other things; and not only in my relationship with God, but also in my ordinary life. Now I am a Co-operator of Opus Dei. I am currently expecting our fourth child, I am a better companion to my husband and am planning and looking forward to taking up my studies again, which I had seriously neglected. So once again St Josemaría was right: “…Be firm in your resolutions, and the pain will soon turn into joy and peace.”

If the car is open, look after it
A few weeks ago, I had been getting very little sleep, working at nights to finish an urgent and important job. One morning I had to go to my workplace to deal with some business matters. When I got home, at around mid-day, I started my daily period of mental prayer. After a few minutes I suddenly began to wonder whether I had locked the car or not. I was almost sure I had. But the uncertainty I felt was preventing me from praying properly, so I asked St Josemaría that, if it was unlocked, he would look after it so that I could finish my prayer. When, a few hours later, I went to get the car, I found to my surprise that I had not locked it that morning, and it had not been touched. Thank you very much, St Josemaría!

We found our house
Some months ago, my husband and I sold our house to move to the city. We didn’t have much time to find a new one. Months passed by and we had to move out of our house into a rented one, because we couldn’t find anything. One of my sisters-in-law then gave me a prayer-card of Saint Josemaria and suggested I said a novena, in which she also was going to join. One week after that, just when the deadline was expiring, we found our house. In Saint Josemaria I have found a friend on whom I can rely at all the moments of my life. I am sure he is with me.

A place to park
I want to give thanks for a favor from the Founder of Opus Dei. This afternoon I had an important job to do and I had to go by car. In the place I was going to, it is very difficult to park, especially at that time, so before setting off I prayed the prayer-card and told St Josemaría that if he found me a parking-place I would write down the favor. Thank you very much, Father.

I'll write this favour down
I had got to work when I realised that I had left home with only one earring. When I got home, it was not on the table where it should have been nor was it under the table. I got down on my knees to look under the table a second time. I had just started to say \"if you find this earring, Father, I\'ll write this favour down\" when I saw it on the spot I had looked only a minute earlier!

I conquered the temptation with the help of St Josemaría
I am an Acolyte in our little but strong parish. Our Sacristan Major decided to give us formal training and teaching all about being an Acolyte. So, he called a nun who was the one who gave us the seminar. After the seminar, before leaving us, the nun gave us a Prayer Card of St Josemaria. I kept it, thinking that it was nothing important... After several days, there was a great temptation that blocked my way from doing some noble acts. I remembered the Prayer Card, I got it and I prayed. What happened was I conquered the temptation with the help of St. Josemaria.

A lung transplant
I have lived in Stockholm for two years and I work as a physiotherapist with patients who suffer from cystic fibrosis, a disease that affects the lungs. One of my patients had been waiting over a year for a lung transplant. A fortnight ago this patient was hospitalized in a very bad state. On Sunday, when I went to give her treatment, I could see that she was so seriously ill – almost dying – that I felt desperate, and as I left the hospital I said, “St Josemaría, I can’t remember your prayer, but this girl needs a pair of lungs NOW!” On Monday I got a surprise: I’d hardly set foot in the hospital when I heard that my patient had been transferred to Lund in the south of Sweden very early that day, because “by chance” new lungs had been found for her! Everything is now going well.

Music that brings people closer to God
I am 19 and an organist. On June 24, two days before St Josemaría’s feast-day, I gave a concert of sacred music. During the concert I had the prayer-card of St Josemaría next to my sheets of music. I prayed to him to help me offer those present music that would help them draw closer to God. The concert was a great success. Thank you, St Josemaría.

I kept the words of the prayer-card in mind
More than 14 years ago I was a novice in a religious community, but I had to leave, to my great sorrow, to help my family who were going through very hard times. I took a job in Lima with a family who belonged to Opus Dei, and thanks to them and the Christian surroundings I was living in, I maintained and strengthened my desire to offer my life to God. It was a beautiful experience. I presented all my work to God very enthusiastically. The lady I worked for was a university lecturer, and little by little I began to nourish a desire to go on to higher education, which I did after some time. Something that had great resonance with my personal experience, and gave me a lot of serenity, was the life of Josemaría Escrivá. I kept the words of the prayer-card in mind: “Grant that I also may learn to turn all the circumstances and events of my life into opportunities to love you and serve the Church, the Pope and all souls with joy and simplicity.” I feel that that experience left a deep mark on my life, and, remembering St Josemaría, I wish to present this act of thanksgiving to God because I am now a teacher of Religious Education and I am able to fulfill my lifelong desire of bringing young people to God. Thank you for everything.

I keep on praying with hope
I’ve known the Work ever since I was little. I prayed many novenas to the Founder so that through his intercession God will give me a good husband and family, because I have always believed that that is where my true vocation lies. I went to Rome for St Josemaria’s canonization, and made that petition fervently to him there. A few weeks later I first got telephone calls from the man whom I later married. We had a beautiful little girl who is now three, and a lovely boy who is two. For reasons that would be hard to explain, we separated on February 18 and are now going through a divorce. I pray the prayer-card to St Josemaría every day and although I can’t see any solution to the present situation, I know that he will find the best way and that through his intercession God will help me and will look after my children when they are not with me, helping me especially at those times. I keep on praying in the hope that one day I will be able to write again with a more encouraging testimony, and I beg everyone who reads this to help me with their prayers. A million thanks.

The prayer of a deacon in Our Lady of Peace
About a fortnight ago I was in Rome but had not managed to get to the church of Our Lady of Peace. Thanks to the information given on your web-site, including which buses to take and where to catch them, I set off on my own and succeeded in finding it. The young man who received me showed me where some of the first people in the history of Opus Dei are buried, and, above all, St Josemaría’s resting-place, where I was able to stop and pray for a while. I thank God for this opportunity to be in that place of peace and prayer, before the mortal remains of the man who enlightened all my years of seminary training, and for having been able to come and give thanks now as a deacon. God bless you.

I remember him every June 26
It was September 1990, when I was a curate in Illescas, a town in Toledo, Spain, and parish administrator for Yeles. I was living with another priest, Fr Javier, who belonged to the Priestly Society of the Holy Cross. He gave me a prayer-card of the Founder of Opus Dei, who had not yet been beatified, because at that point I had to set up catechism classes in Yeles and I had no idea how to do it. On the second or third day of saying the prayer, I got a call from a relative of mine who is in Opus Dei. We’d last met at his sister’s wedding some months before, and I’d told him about being appointed administrator for Yeles. I’d completely forgotten the conversation, and so I was really surprised when he called me to offer his services, together with a number of boys who were attending Christian formational activities in an Opus Dei center. I was dumbstruck, and realized right away that this was St Josemaría’s response.
That was not all. Yeles was no easy task, and those school kids, with my relative and another guy in charge, came every Saturday with heroic regularity all the way from Madrid, 40 kilometers away, and spent the whole morning with the kids in the catechism groups.
I was quite content to know that they were going to give them Catholic instruction. They did much more – they played football with them, and some came with me on sick calls. Then off they went back to Madrid at mid-day, as happy as though it was I who’d done them a favor.
That whole year they never took a cent for what they did, not even to pay for the gas. There was only one Saturday in the year that they didn’t come, and they warned me about it two months in advance. By the end of it I felt ashamed to remember that I had sometimes criticized Opus Dei just because it was fashionable to. At the end of the year they accepted my invitation to a thank-you lunch. The following October I went to Rome to study, and I know that my successor continued to benefit from their services for a time. 17 years have now passed since that prayer to St Josemaría. In 1992 I was in Rome for his beatification, and from then on I remember him every June 26 with great love and gratitude. St Josemaría loves priests and helps them a lot. God bless the Work, may it continue doing good in the Church and the world.

The only hope was a transplant
Ten years ago my nephew, who was 15, had leukemia, and the doctors said the only hope was a transplant. He went to hospital and had a bone-marrow transplant from his brother. It was one of the first transplants done in Peru, but thanks to St Josemaría’s intercession Diego was cured. He is now 25 and working. It was a miracle for the whole family.

I know he will guide me
I have prayed for St Josemaría’s intercession because I need my driving license for my job. I haven’t much money for driving lessons, so I can only have the minimum lessons necessary before taking the test. I am praying hard for him to help me. I haven’t yet taken my driving test but I want to thank him because I know he is listening to my petition and that he will guide me.

He helped me to help her
I had offered to meet a friend on her arrival at the airport after a trip abroad. For various reasons I couldn’t set off until rather later than I had planned, and I realised that her flight would have landed before I got there. I really wanted to meet her and help her with her luggage, so I prayed to St Josemaría that I would still be in time. As I came through the airport I saw that passengers from her flight had already come out. Just as I got to the Arrivals gate, my friend walked through it. I said another prayer-card to St Josemaría in thanksgiving.

In a drawer
The day before yesterday I was looking for my letter of recommendation for my University entrance, and couldn’t find it anywhere. In the end I thought I must have thrown it away by mistake. I’d just got to that point when I looked up and saw the prayer-card of St Josemaría, which I have on the wall above my desk, and I prayed very intensely to him to help me find my reference. Almost immediately I found it in a drawer I had never thought of looking in. It was a miracle that it turned up and I am really, truly grateful for it. Thank you!

Unaffordable apartments
For a long time I was waiting for the chance to buy an apartment with my fiancée. I never found any possibility because the prices kept going up and were unaffordable for us. Then I decided to pray to St Josemaría (I was given a prayer card by a priest at college and I was really glad to have it) so that we could find an apartment we could afford. And we were lucky! My fiancée was allocated an apartment to rent. The funny thing is that we didn’t even know about the allocation process or that she was eligible for it, until we got the letter confirming that she had the apartment. We are very happy. We promised that if we got it we would go to Rome to visit St Josemaría’s tomb. We are planning the trip right now. Thank you, St Josemaría!

Thank you Don Alvaro
I had a problem with the computer: it crashed, and all the applications that had been installed were lost. I prayed to Don Alvaro that no documents had been lost, because it would have been a real problem as the computer isn’t mine. I started it up again: the applications were re-installed and all the documents were there. All I had to do was reinstall the applications. Phew! Thank you, Don Alvaro!

I received a call and was scheduled for an examination
I've been searching for a job for months until a friend gave me a prayer card of St. Josemaria. Almost four months have passed and I haven't received any call from one of the companies that I applied. One day I prayed to St. Josemaria and a few days later I received a call and was scheduled for an examination.

With no problem
When I was three months pregnant I had a serious hemorrhage. The doctor I went to was very concerned. She asked me if I was a Catholic. I said yes. Then she gave me the card with a prayer for the intercession of the founder of Opus Dei. She suggested I could pray it with faith. I prayed it every evening with great faith, and a month later the hemorrhage had disappeared. I went to the doctor and she told me it had been a miracle, and to keep praying. My baby was born with no problem. When the nurses saw me they couldn’t believe my daughter had been born like that. My family and I still pray the prayer of Saint Josemaría with a lot of faith.

I am never out of work
Early in January 1998 I was working as a taxi-driver, using a hired taxi. My wife and son were both sick. It wasn’t anything serious but I needed money for medication and things weren’t going all that well. One night as I was ending my shift a lady got into the taxi, she saw from my face I was worried. I explained I needed a steady job, and she gave me a holy card of a saint I’d never heard of. She told me to pray it with a lot of faith. She said this saint had gotten a job for her son. I read what it said on the card very carefully, and when I turned round to thank her for it, and for the 20 dollars she gave me, she had already gone. I put away my prayer-card of Blessed Josemaría. Two or three days later things got even worse because the taxi I had hired for work broke down. One evening I came home after looking for work, and my Mom told me that someone I didn’t know very well had called about a job. I went to meet him and he said a friend of his needed someone reliable for a job with a big firm, because it involved handling money. He said he’d thought of me, and I was really surprised because, like I said, I didn’t know him that well. I thanked him sincerely, went home, took out my prayer-card, and realized that the founder of Opus Dei had helped me by making that man think of me for the job. From then on, thank God, through Saint Josemaría’s intercession I am never out of work. This last February I applied to an international firm that it’s very hard to get into, especially at age 38 like me, but I prayed hard to the founder of Opus Dei and got the job. Every day before going to work I pray for him to help me and protect me. Not just that: whenever there is some difficult situation, I always pray to him and he helps me. Today I saw the video about a taxi-driver who had a daughter with hydrocephalus, and I thought of the favors I received from him too. I don’t have the slightest doubt that Saint Josemaría is a great miracle-worker… Thank-you Josemaría Escrivá de Balaguer.

The password had been changed
I am writing to tell you about a miracle by Saint Josemaría. I have to keep a check on both my eyes for macular degeneration, and I regularly go to the Social Security ophthalmology clinic for field of vision measure tests. This last time they gave me an appointment for Monday April 30 at 14.30. It was a bad time for me because I wanted to have the whole weekend, that Monday and May 1 free, so I tried several times to change the appointment, but it was impossible. I got to the clinic on time for my appointment, and found the nurse was worried because she had spent 30 minutes trying to access the computer programme for the field of vision testing machine, and couldn’t start it up. She was really upset, and told me she would not be able to give me the vision test, nor the ten patients who were due to come after me, because the equipment was not working. As I knew this nurse from my previous appointments, I told her that I was going to start saying the prayer to Saint Josemaría. As soon as I finished the nurse tried again. Just then another nurse happened to come in, and told her that the Friday before, the password had been changed. She went to get the new password, and the equipment started working straight away. When she finished she thanked me, and both of us together thanked the founder of Opus Dei with great feeling. It did the nurse a lot of good. Just in case this helps someone else,

Now you can drive in peace
My husband had an operation recently. It was quite complicated as the pathology was at an advanced stage. When he came out of hospital I went to meet him with the car. I found him in a lot of pain. Although he is someone who has a high pain threshold, he began protesting and exclaiming every time he felt the slightest jolt as we drove along. Although I was driving as carefully as I could, he was in great discomfort and I didn’t know what to do. It was then that I invoked the founder of Opus Dei mentally, with great fervour. Hardly had I done so when I heard my husband’s voice saying, “Now you can drive in peace, because it’s stopped hurting.” Alleluia, thank you Saint Josemaría!

All we have to do is pray with faith
Hi, I’m writing to give thanks for a request I made through saint Josemaría. I asked him that I might make progress in my computer work and studies, since I had been left to one side for several years. Today I can say with satisfaction that I have achieved that progress. But I am conscious that the founder of Opus Dei and the Blessed Virgin have interceded to bring this about. I also have to say that just recently my financial situation has improved. I wanted to give witness of what had been done for me. Perhaps others might not think it of too much importance, but I have to say that saint Josemaría is there for us and all we have to do is ask him for things with faith. A thousand thanks from me,

A small miracle
Thanks for a ‘small’ miracle... I have a wonderful son, who is a lively and articulate 3 year old, but he is rather assertive in his tastes. He has had almost phobic aversion to most foods since weaning, surviving mainly on sausages and chicken nuggets for long periods and generally refusing to even try anything new. I was constantly having to make special arrangements around his eating preferences and taking him out anywhere posed an ongoing challenge which was often exhausting. He could not eat with his peers and I would have to prepare his own separate food to bring to social gatherings for him. Comparing him to my second son, who had none of these strong preferences, only re-enforced my bewilderment. My friend could see that this was becoming a major worry for me and would distract my thoughts in my prayer and even during a retreat. She suggested that we do a nine day novena to St. Josemaria, using the prayer card. Even from the first day I saw the difference when he amazed us by asking for a piece of the salmon we were having for dinner. The day after, at a friend’s house, he requested for the first time to try a boiled egg! He kept this up until he was eating sandwiches, rice dishes and even cheese (previously totally embargoed in any shape or form since he tried a baby jar of cheese soufflé at 8 months.). By the end of the novena I considered him cured and he is now eating a normal diet, like any other child. Although the scale of this event may seem small in comparison to others I wish to assert that it is a true miracle! Thank you St. Josemaria!

A small but important favor
I promised I would write about this small favor which, although it is so small, is nevertheless very important to me. I had to give a speech to 400 people. It was the first time I had spoken to such a large audience. When I practiced, there came a point where my voice failed and I started to cry. I did this dozens of times, I’m not exaggerating. I said to St Josemaría, “You were overcome with emotion in the presence of his holiness Pope Paul VI – do me this great favor, don’t let me be overcome and don’t let my voice give way during my speech.” Some hours before the occasion I had another practice, and for the first time my voice didn’t give way. I knew that the Founder of Opus Dei had heard my prayers, and I went along confidently to the conference. I though that it was proof that he had already granted the favor. And so it was. Additionally, I told him, “I will publish it, although I find it hard, because I don’t like talking about such personal things.” I was congratulated by people who are very hard to please and who never go overboard about these things. I want to show my gratitude so that more people are encouraged to have recourse to the intercession of St Josemaría, Founder of Opus Dei, in everyday things.

I promised I would write about it
I call them my two “loves”, with the greatest respect, because I really have enormous affection for them. I have photos of Josemaría and Alvaro on my computer and on my bedside table. Recently my mother had to have some tests done on her stomach and intestine. We feared the worst. So as to be sure whom I should thank, I prayed to Don Alvaro for this intention. Everything went well, she didn’t suffer, and the results showed that she had nothing seriously wrong with her. I promised I would write about it. Really both of them, St Josemaría and Don Alvaro del Portillo, are fathers and brothers and true friends to me, always there and always loving.

I got the tickets
For a long time past I have been meaning to write about two favors St Josemaría did for me on different trips. The first was to get me two tickets on the very day of the trip, only just before leaving. This was amazing, given that the August vacations began on that day and I was traveling to the south of Spain, which is a notable tourist destination. I prayed hard to St Josemaría, the founder of Opus Dei, all the way to the station. I had to be very persistent at the booking-office, but in the end I was able to travel that day, impossible though it seemed.
The other favor I promised to write about was for a trip I made to my home town. My dad had been in hospital for several weeks and I went to visit him. I went by airplane. As it is a long distance and there are no direct flights, you always have to make a transfer. I had a return ticket for fixed flights, tourist class. While I was there the hospital confirmed the date of an operation on the very day I was due to travel back. I stayed to see him safely through the operation, so I lost my flight. I prayed to St Josemaría that I’d be able to travel the next day. At the first airport, thanks to the help of someone I knew, there was no problem, but the second flight was more complicated. I had the medical report as evidence, and after a lot of to-ing and fro-ing, and, of course, praying to St Josemaría, they let me on the flight. It really was a big favor because one of the conditions of that type of ticket is that you can’t change the flight, and obviously still less after the date when it should have been used.

Carelessness
I always turn to St Josemaría’s intercession and, since I got the prayer-card of Don Alvaro del Portillo, to him as well. My problem this time was simple but, for me, desperate. In a moment of carelessness I left both doors of our house unlocked and the street door swung open. I realized what had happened eight hours later but by some special grace nobody came in. I couldn’t find my keys, and I assumed perhaps I’d left them in the door and someone had taken them. We couldn’t sleep that night, and stayed on guard to protect the house. I prayed to St Josemaría to please let us find the keys and I promised to publish it if we did. I found them just as my dad was about to change the locks! Thank you, St Josemaría!

As arranged
I am a pilot with a German airways company. I was living in Frankfurt and I asked to be transferred to Düsseldorf, because I’d found a house in that city for my family – my wife and the baby we were expecting. Everything seemed to be going well and we were already getting the new house set up when, because of staff shortages, they canceled the transfer. I talked to the manager and another person, but nobody understood my problem or was interested in my situation. Even the union didn’t want to help. The only solution left was to turn to St Josemaría and entrust the solution to him. And suddenly, everyone started trying to help, they found a solution to the problem, and I was able to move as arranged.

Praying for all the sick
I read about St Josemaría today, and after seeing all those testimonies I felt the need to pray for the intercession of the Founder of Opus Dei before God the Father, for the health of my mother, my uncle and aunt, and in general all the sick people in the world, who are our brothers and sisters.

A couple of days later she was back home
First of all I want to say sorry to St Josemaría, the founder of Opus Dei, for not having sent in this testimony before. Three years ago, my mother was diagnosed with throat cancer. She had checks done in several hospitals, including one that specialized in oncology. Obviously, we were all deeply worried, but the day she was due to be operated on I went to the hospital chapel with the prayer-card of St Josemaría and prayed that the illness might not be as bad as we had been told. I was sure that he would intercede for us, but it was a time of great anguish, and people were trying to prepare us for the worst, since the doctors still did not know the extent of the cancer. But I held onto my faith and prayed hard through the intercession of the founder of Opus Dei. When the operation was over, the doctors said that what she had was a thyroid problem, and a couple of days later my mother was back home with us. The doctors cannot understand what happened, because according to the biopsies they had done, everything pointed to a cancer. So I am really grateful to St Josemaría, for this favor and two more besides.

Despite my reluctance
I was in France with some friends and one of them lost his wallet. We searched and searched the car, which a friend had lent us, but it didn’t appear. I prayed a prayer-card to St Josemaría – rather reluctantly, to be honest – praying that the wallet would turn up with all the papers. Two days after we’d returned the car, I got an e-mail from the owner saying that he had the wallet – it had been in the car, in full view. One more little favor to be grateful for, by telling people about it and writing it down.

Not the way I’d expected
My job involves using the internet. Today it was not working, and I was getting desperate. I prayed hard through St Josemaría’s intercession that what I needed for my job would start working again. After a break of two hours I tried again and still couldn’t get into it. “He hasn’t granted me that favor,” I thought, a bit disappointed. But then it occurred to me that I had an older program which I might still be able to use. And it worked! Then I had to admit that it had indeed been a favor that God had granted through the intercession of the founder of Opus Dei, just not the way I’d expected.

Effects on children and my marriage
Six months ago I had a second heart attack at home. The emergency medical team that arrived tried to do an electrocardiogram to check how bad it was. None of them, neither doctors nor nurses, could get the equipment to give any signal at all. My wife, seeing that time was being wasted and knowing that their rules said they had to do this check before they could take me into hospital, went to fetch a payer-card of St Josemaría that had touched his tomb in Rome. She put the prayer-card on my body, and straight away the equipment gave a signal and produced an electrocardiogram showing clear evidence of the heart attack. Once I was in hospital I had a cardiac arrest, and the doctors thought it was unlikely I would survive it. I did, and they took me into intensive care, where again they were not optimistic about my chances of recovery. My wife again put the prayer-card on my body and gave it to me to kiss. Within a few days, although I had to have certain minor operations, I had improved very much. I am grateful to St Josemaría, the founder of Opus Dei, for his intercession before God, and I pray to him every day for myself and for whoever I think needs his help. St Josemaría’s prayers have already produced effects on my children and my marriage.

From Cuba
I live in Cuba, and through a friend I received a copy of The Way by Josemaría Escrivá, the founder of Opus Dei. I began to read it and meditate about it little by little, and my life has changed. My faith has become more committed, and now I know that God is our good Father and that I’ve a great patron in heaven called St Josemaría. Every day I practice the “heroic minute” of getting up right away in the morning, or at any rate I try to. I am more organized, and my life of faith has received a new direction. Everyone who can should read this great book. It will help you so much in your life. Now I take it with me wherever I go. Thank you.

She came out of the coma
Two years ago my daughter Roxana, 31, was in coma in a hospital in Chiclayo. We had very little hope that she would recover. After a fortnight, one morning I went to seven o’clock Mass in the Cathedral. I was standing near the entrance, when I got the feeling someone on my left was looking at me. I didn’t turn round because I was trying to follow the Mass, but suddenly I couldn’t help glancing that way. I saw a big photo of Saint Josemaría Escrivá. I told him that when I had finished praying to our Father God, I would go and pray for his intercession with my wife, who had lost faith that our daughter would recover. So I said to her, “Let’s ask this saint to intercede before God for our daughter,” and we did. That afternoon I went to the hospital. My wife couldn’t even bring herself to ask for news, but, thank God, my daughter had improved. The next day I went round the whole town looking for a prayer-card or photo of the founder of Opus Dei but I couldn’t find one. To my great surprise, when I went to visit my daughter that afternoon, she already had her eyes open when I came in. Beside her, on the glass panel, someone had stuck a prayer-card of Saint Josemaría. I hadn’t seen it before and I don’t know who put it there. Now he is my patron, my guide and support in everything. Thank you, Saint Josemaría!

Which saint did you pray to?
I was desperate with trying to find a job, this had become a nightmare and I was physically and emotionally exhausted. The reason was “lack of work experience” – I just took my degree at university. I can’t believe that having a professional qualification is not enough to get a job. Then one day I heard about Saint Josemaría thru some friends. I found out more about him and then began a novena to him. Unbelievable though it seems, even before completing the novena I began to see the first results thru God’s infinite mercy. I received some calls, and although they were not for jobs I was interested in, that gave me hope. After about a month praying the prayer daily and renewing my efforts thru the right channels, I got my longed-for post. I thank God, my Guardian Angel and of course Saint Josemaría, Founder of Opus Dei. I am now working for a company that is wonderful in every way. Recently talking to a friend she was astonished to hear the details of my job and asked, “Hey, which saint did you pray to?!”

A difficult pregnancy and other favors
A friend gave me a prayer-card of saint Josemaría and that same day I began learning about his life and teachings, and I can honestly say that he is always at my side.
I am writing now to give thanks for all the many favors I received through his intercession. I became pregnant again at age 42, when I already had two children of 10 and 12. I was worried, so I prayed and entrusted myself to God through saint Josemaría’s intercession. The hospital told me they would do tests to see if the baby was normal, but I refused, because I wanted to accept my baby no matter what he or she was like. I prayed all the time that everything would go well, since I was at risk of miscarriage throughout the pregnancy. When I went into labor I kept hold of a prayer-card of the founder of Opus Dei, and a nurse who saw it asked who it was. I told her it was the card of a saint who worked lots of miracles for me. The baby was a girl, and I placed her under saint Josemaría’s protection. When she was four, she had a kidney infection. I took her into A and E with a high fever. The doctor who saw her said it must be something quite serious, but I never lost my trust in the founder of Opus Dei. They did some tests for kidney function but these were inconclusive, and as it was X-rays they couldn’t repeat the tests for fear of damaging an organ. I said the prayer-card of saint Josemaría and told him that he was to look after everything. In just a few days’ time my daughter was well again. They did more tests a year later and found no problem. I know that saint Josemaría will always look after her, because I entrusted her to his protection.
Halfway through last year my eldest son phoned home in tears and said, “Mom, pray to that saint who always works miracles for you.” His fiancée is diabetic and had just been taken into hospital because she had collapsed and was unconscious. Hospital checks showed that her pancreas was not functioning, and she would have to have an operation. From that moment on I prayed to saint Josemaría, knowing that he would hear me, and I was at peace. Two days later, new hospital analyses showed that everything was fine. What’s more, from then on she hasn’t needed insulin or medication to control the diabetes, she just has to follow a diet. I know this is all thanks to the founder of Opus Dei.
Next year we are going to Rome to thank him for all the things he has done for my family.

I know that St Josemaría heard my prayers
I live on the shore of Lake Chapala, one of my brothers is married and they just had their first baby; for various reasons he was going through a bad patch and took a number of dangerous decisions. Because of all this I began to pray urgently through St Josemaría’s intercession for my brother. Then I asked my brother to forgive me for anything I might have done that had hurt him, and to let me be a better brother to him in future. He calmed down, and changed the decisions he had made. I know that St Josemaría heard my prayers. Today my brother asked our Mom to go with him to speak to the parish priest. Please pray with me that my brother will end up by turning back to God and staying with Him.

He was with Cielito throughout her treatment
My niece Cielito was diagnosed with leukemia in November 2002 when she was just two years old. She had to have an operation to place a catheter and to be able to administer the chemotherapy. This operation took place on March 20, 2003 and lasted three hours. The following day she had a fever and looked weak and miserable. The fever continued two days more and during the night of March 24 her temperature went very high. Her mother took a prayer-card of the Founder of Opus Dei and began to pray to him fervently. Suddenly she felt a cool breeze coming in through the door. She took Cielito’s temperature again and found it had gone down to normal. (…) We know that the Founder of Opus Dei was with her not only that night but throughout the whole treatment, which went on for three years. Now she is fine. We always rely on St Josemaría’s help.

The toddler regained consciousness
Hi, friends of St Josemaría! I work as a hospital pediatrician in Lima. I want to share with you a great miracle from the founder of Opus Dei. One month ago I heard that a toddler of 2 years 11 months, the son of a friend of mine, was seriously ill with viral encephalitis. He was in coma, connected up to tubes and an artificial respirator. As I doctor I knew that there was not much hope of a cure, given his situation, since the cerebral magnetic resonance showed serious neurological damage. However, I have a profound devotion to St Josemaría and I knew he was the only hope. I took one of my prayer-cards of St Josemaría and gave it to my friend. I asked her to pray with great faith and to have trust in him. Twenty days later the toddler regained consciousness and began to recover, although the serious state he was in has had some consequences. March 24 was little Santiago’s third birthday, and I want to ask you all to pray with me and his mother so that he continues to grow healthy, so that he can learn about St Josemaría and have him as a companion for life, as we do. God bless you!

Nothing serious
Some days ago my father had some medical tests and the results showed a certain anomaly that meant he would have to take medication for the rest of his life. I said a novena to saint Josemaría and another to Don Alvaro, praying that it would turn out to be a mistake. Two days later he was examined by two more doctors and had more tests. The tests showed that my father had nothing serious at all, and so he would not need any medication. I am writing as I promised to pass on this favor, for which I am deeply grateful. Thank you, saint Josemaría, founder of Opus Dei, thank you Don Alvaro.

A beacon of hope
I first learnt about Opus Dei and its founder Josemaria Escriva sometime in the late 1980’s when I was a young schoolboy through a sister of mine (now deceased) who attended an Opus Dei-run college. In the intervening years a number of things happened to me which I am convinced were due to his intercession. In spite of all this, for various reasons I stopped practising my faith.
In 2005 I had been invited to Nairobi for a job interview, and I lived 500km away. Halfway through the long journey, I got off the bus for a 5-minute break, but when I came back, the bus was no longer there! The interview was less than three hours later, and the bus had left with all my certificates and other vital documents. Then I did the only thing I could think of. I said the prayer asking for St Josemaría’s intercession, which I had learned by heart many years before. I had just finished saying the prayer when someone asked me what my problem was. I told him and he gave me the telephone number of the bus driver. I called the bus driver immediately and he told me he was very far away. I got into another bus straightaway and proceeded to Nairobi, praying continuously in the meantime. When I got to Nairobi, you can imagine my joy when the first person I saw was the driver with my briefcase, with all my documents intact! Although I didn’t get the job, the joy of getting back my documents was just too great, because that’s what I had been praying for. I am convinced he helped me.
Now, fast forward to 2007. In the intervening years, I have regained my faith but unfortunately, there are still things in my life that need to change. I have also gone through so many problems: losing a brother, a sister, my father, and it became increasingly difficult to get employment, yet I am supposed to take care of my mother and younger sister.
Early this month I decided on a series of novenas to solve my problems one by one, starting with a good and stable job. I have been praying for ten days now and although I am not yet successful, reading about other people’s testimonies every day keeps me hoping that it is only a matter of time before my testimony too can be read here on this website. Especially if you pray with me. But one thing is very clear to me: mending my relationship with God is my priority, followed by a good job. Thank you Josemaria for being a beacon of hope to those in trouble!

He never fails
I am writing in gratitude to a favour which my family received from St. Josemaria. Last year in December my mother was diagnosed with cancer. It was really something unexpected as my mother has always been very active and healthy. She was admitted to hospital on Christmas day and the operation was done on the following day. The operation took place without any problem but the doctor wanted to have another test to be done to make sure that the cancer cells had not spread to other parts of her body. As I am living in another country, I could not do much but I tried to encourage my parents a lot and asked them that we pray a special novena to St. Josemaria. I was very hopeful because St. Josemaría has never let us down in all the moments of difficulties we have gone through. I got more encouraged when my parents rang me to inform me that the results were going to come out on the 9th of January this year. I thought that this was too much of a coincidence but at the same time St. Josemaria taught us that nothing happens by chance and so I prayed more to his intercession. On the 9th of January I rang my parents and they had just left the hospital. The results were very good: the cancer had not spread as we had asked St. Josemaría in our novena. My mother told me that she attributes this to the intercession of the founder of Opus Dei, as she has been praying the prayer card which she had put on her pillow. I am really grateful to St. Josemaría and each time I am more convinced that he never fails.

I misplaced the prayer card
A friend gave me the prayer card in 1998, and some how I misplaced it! I have been trying hard to get the prayer again!! when I got the website 2 weeks ago, I just wrote in handwriting, the prayer and prayed. Both my husband and I had no jobs! On the 9th day of my novena, my husband got a job! I have now started my novena for my own job, please pray with me! Thank and Thank you again. God bless you.

He gave me a prayer-card
One night my husband was driving the car and it got stuck in a heap of stones on the track. We were in the car with our two children, 4 and 2 years old. Everything was dark, and none of the cars that passed stopped to help us. My husband was getting desperate and so was I. Suddenly a car stopped and a very kind man helped us, and towed us off with his car. Before driving away he gave me a prayer-card of Saint Josemaría Escrivá, and told me to pray it when I was in difficulties. From then on I always say it with all my devotion.

Just a week later
I want to thank St Josemaría Escrivá for a very great miracle he granted me for my son Julio, just a week after beginning to pray to him with great devotion, he got a job, something which was becoming more and more difficult. I promised St Josemaría I would publish this miracle. I promise to be devoted to him for always.

A radical change
For the past years I was an immoral person. When I was browsing the internet last year, 2006, I came to the website of St. Josemaria, even though I did not know him. On that same day, I went to the bookstore and the first book I saw was "The Way" written by him. Then, the next day, I was walking in the mall and went to a religious store. A sister gave me a prayer-card and said, "I don't need it." Well, I did not look at it so I just dropped it in my bag. While going to school, I was looking for a bookmark and remembered the card that the sister gave me, I was surprised! It was a prayer card of St. Josemaria! I read his short life at the back, then, prayed the prayer within, without any feeling. Then when the moment when the prayer said "make your intention here" I just said within myself, "Just change me, help me to be a new person." Going home normally, the next day, I went to confession. Yes! A confession! It was almost a year since I went to confession! The priest advised me to find a spiritual director. Then again, I prayed the prayer in the card and said "Find me a Spiritual Director." The next day, I went to the Bishop's office where I serve, the secretary of the Bishop shared to me his experience about his Spiritual Director and I asked what is its purpose. He gave me a good answer. So, I went to my cubicle in the office, a little minute after the secretary of the Bishop called me. In his office is a priest in a clerical dress. I said "Hi!" then he replied "What I can I do to serve you?" "I need a Spiritual Director..." He replied "Sure!" It was so surprising, what is happening in my life? Is this a miracle with the man inside that prayer card? When I asked the secretary of the Bishop what diocese or congregation does he belong, he answered "He is a priest of the Opus Dei..." Then my heart started to cry and my eyes started to shed tears... When I went for the first time with my first and new Spiritual Director, I shared to him my past life and he gave me words of encouragement to change and be holy. Until now I am continuing my Spiritual Direction with the priest of the prelature and little by little, I am beginning to live a real Christian life, I go to confession every week, yes, every week! Going to Mass and praying very hard which I didn't do in the past. Now, I am doing more research on the works and life of the man in a black cassock with a one-side hair-do whose name is "Saint Josemaria Escriva." Because of him, I have founded a group who help other young people to change and be holy... I don't know if this will be a miracle for others, but for me, This is the greatest miracle I have ever in my life! Thank you Saint Josemaria! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you and I love you so much!

If you get me out of this, I’ll write about it
I’m writing these few lines to thank St Josemaría for his help. I often turned to him for help but this last time I told him: “Josemaría, if you get me out of this, I’ll write about it.” So I am. I was going in for a very difficult competitive exam and I needed his help, first to use my time really well and secondly on the day of the exam itself. Thank God, I passed it. I am so grateful for St Josemaría’s help, especially because I’ve realised the importance of the virtue of order to manage the things we find difficult. Additionally, someone in my family received some very, very good news these last few days. I feel very grateful to the Founder of Opus Dei because I prayed to him for this person who is very close to me. With sincere thanks.

Thanks to Don Alvaro we are closer to God
I have just read the section on Favours of Don Alvaro. I was very happy to discover that we can also send our testimonies through the same website. I want to write in gratitude for everything that Don Alvaro has been doing for my family. For the past three years, my family had undergone several serious problems. In each of these situations, I prayed the prayer card of Don Alvaro many times asking for his help and he never failed us. I am also grateful because these occasions have helped my family to be closer to God. I attribute all this to the intercession of Don Alvaro.

Happy at his new school
St Josemaría has granted me many favors. The biggest was the cure of our new-born son when the doctors said there was no hope. When that same son was at school I wanted to move him to a different school that would teach things we agreed with. I spoke to the head-teacher who said that it was fine by him but the education inspector would not allow children to change school half-way through the year. I went to the educational authority office, praying prayer-cards to the Founder of Opus Dei all the way. When I got there, the first person I spoke to sent me to see someone else without really listening to me. The next person said more or less that he didn’t see why I was bothering him with my question. The upshot of it was that there was no problem at all with the change and my son is now happy at his new school. The strange thing is that a friend of mine wanted to do the same thing at about the same time, and when she had her interview with the education inspector, he refused permission. I am very grateful for this favor.

I invoked Don Alvaro
On a trip to Strasbourg I went to an Opus Dei center that I had not been to before, to do an evening of recollection. I found there the second Newsletter about Don Alvaro del Portillo’s cause of beatification, which had not yet arrived at the center I normally go to. After the recollection, I set off to return to my hotel, but as it’s a large city that I am not familiar with, I got lost and spent some time going round in circles. What made it worse was that it was quite late, and the district seemed deserted. Then I invoked Don Alvaro and almost immediately a man came along who kindly showed me the way back to the hotel.

Thanks to the intercession of Don Alvaro and St. Josemaria!
Several months before my medical board exams, I was a bit nervous as during the few months I had for study, I had to take care of several matters at the same time. I prayed the novena to Bishop Alvaro del Portillo for the intention of passing my exams. Some of my friends and classmates taking the same exam asked for my prayers and I entrusted that intention to St. Josemaria as well. Two days after the exams, we got the result: I passed and our medical school got a 100% passing rate, which hasn't happened for some time. Everyone I prayed for passed, thanks to the intercessions of Don Alvaro and St. Josemaria!

Very good relations
I owe several favors to Saint Josemaría, one of which I want to tell about today. Nine years ago we moved to our first house (that was also due to a favor from him). My husband and I were sorry to find that our next-door neighbors were a little strange. Although we were friendly and polite to them they never even returned our greetings and treated all the other neighbors the same way. Whenever we did any work on the house they always found something to complain about. It was a very unpleasant, uncomfortable situation for us. I decided to ask Saint Josemaría to take a hand in the affair and began to pray a prayer-card for this intention every day. One day I was changing the water-tank in our house and they asked me to be extra careful. We started to talk, and from that moment on they changed completely. Today our relations with them are very good. They are the best neighbors we ever had – friendly, respectful, supportive, helpful, and they give little gifts to our kids. We are the only ones who know when they are going on vacation, we look after their house and when we are away, they look after ours. Thanks to Saint Josemaría the whole situation was turned around and he helped us to live in charity with our neighbors and to teach our children to do the same.

Day by day, hour by hour and minute by minute
I’m 26, and ever since I was 14, I can remember hearing people at home talking about Saint Josemaría Escrivá, whom I call “Monsignor” with the greatest respect. When I was 15, I first held in my hands prayer-cards with a picture of him and the prayer through the intercession, firstly of “the Servant of God”, then “Blessed”, and finally “Saint” Josemaría. On one occasion, I think it was 2002, my nephew had a problem with his appendix and was taken into hospital. The doctors on duty told us that the operation might not be successful, and in that case his left leg would be affected. My faith led me to pray for him through Saint Josemaría’s intercession, and the operation was completely successful. Now we have really good games of football together… Shortly after that I had an interview for a job at a private University. They told me they would call me. I prayed through Saint Josemaría’s intercession, and I’ve now been working at that University for four years. Day by day, hour by hour and minute by minute I am sanctifying my work, and I thank Saint Josemaría for all he has done for me and my family.

He helps me to be a good worker
Glory to God! I met the spirit of Opus Dei when I was studying. One of my fellow-students was living by its spirit. There was a period when everything in my life was uncertain: I didn’t have a job and was finding things very difficult. However, I never gave up praying the Holy Rosary, and I want to tell everyone who is hesitating, don’t ever stop saying the Rosary. Our Lady always helps. She helps us at exactly the right moment, because she knows the whole of our lives and knows what is best for us. Through our Lady’s intercession I found a job. At the beginning it was hard. Then I obtained The Way, Furrow and The Forge, by Saint Josemaría, the founder of Opus Dei, and started to meditate on them every day. Now I live in accord with this spirit, which helps me to be a good worker, and I intend soon to ask for admission in Opus Dei, but first I need to prepare spiritually. The Love of Christ always wins.

A nightmare
Last summer after a routine check-up I was diagnosed with a serious illness and taken into hospital. I was told I’d be there two or three months. This was on the very day I was going on holiday with my family. I prayed to Saint Josemaría, the founder of Opus Dei, and promised him I would give witness of his intercession if he saved me from that nightmare. Unexpectedly a doctor came the next day to tell me not to worry: I could go back home and lead a normal life except for just a few small details. I am deeply grateful for the miraculous intervention of Saint Josemaría, that’s how I see it anyway. This is my witness to his help.

Something shiny on a step
On Thursday August 14, 2003, my husband Juan Antonio took our daughter Monica to the swimming-pool in our complex, and forgot to take off his wedding-ring. When he came back from the pool, he realized that he didn’t have the ring, and felt sure it had fallen off in the pool. When he went back to look for it I took the prayer-card of the founder of Opus Dei and prayed a novena. As I finished the telephone rang. It was my husband, saying he had the ring and that later he’d tell me how it had appeared. My husband, who is Catholic but doesn’t practice, and doesn’t have much faith, explained to me that when he reached the pool he went round it for some time because he was sure it had come off in the pool. In the end he gave up and stopped looking. When he was leaving, he saw something shiny on a step outside the pool, but he did not think it could be the ring because he had never been in that area. But just in case he went over to check and found it was the ring. He was very surprised that the ring looked so shiny and that it appeared there. I told him that as soon as he went back to look for the ring, I had started praying to St Josemaría, and that I thought the way the ring had appeared was a sign of his help. My husband, rather doubtfully, agreed, saying that if the ring hadn’t been shining the way it was, he would never have found it because it was rather hidden behind the steps.

Everything is fine
In May 2002 I was diagnosed with breast cancer, and at the same time a genetic disorder that would cause relapses and probably prove fatal. From the moment they told me this, I thought that the Lord was sending me a great trial that would help us to grow as a family and would bring us many good things. Before hearing the diagnosis I already prayed to St Josemaría to help me be strong and not lose my peace of mind, and I can say that he did. Through his intercession many doors were opened so that I could begin my fight against the disease. I thought that as 2002 was the year of our Father’s canonization and the centenary of his birth, I could be confident that as I was a daughter of his he would not fail to intercede for me. I went to the United States, to a hospital that was just beginning a study for patients with the positive gene I had, and got the best possible treatment. During the treatment I offered all my sufferings for many vocations throughout the world and for Opus Dei to begin its apostolate in Russia and other far-off places. I have to say that my sufferings were mainly mental ones, and now, with great joy, I can state that I am cured through the intercession of the founder of Opus Dei. I am now writing from the hospital where I was treated, where I have just been for a check-up and have been told that everything is fine. I can testify that the prayer of the Communion of Saints is great and powerful – you can really feel it! I would also like to say that what I went through gave me the opportunity to do a lot of apostolate, tell many people about St Josemaría, and give them prayer-cards.
With sincere greetings,

The answers in time
I had to settle a complicated matter and had been unable to contact the key person. I had to get an answer from him in order to finalize an urgent document. I began praying the prayer-card of the Founder of Opus Dei at the same time as I dialed the telephone number and… I got the approval for the document! Thank you, my God! Thank you, Father!
The other favor is also an important one. I had planned to take some days off for a spiritual retreat and, when I asked my boss, she said she couldn’t let me take the time off for a number of reasons, and she gave me a list of them. We went through the list together to see how to resolve them, while I kept asking St Josemaría for help on the inside. In the end everything worked out, and my boss said she’d do extra hours so that I could take the time off.

Three favors
More than three years ago I asked an accountant to sort out my tax affairs, and gave her all my documents for that purpose. Being inexperienced, I gave her the originals and didn’t even keep any copies. For various reasons I lost touch with her and in time I forgot about the problem. A few weeks ago I got a fine, and I began to worry because if I had a visit from a tax inspector, and I didn’t have the receipts issued, things could get serious. I asked St Josemaría to help me get those papers back. The first favor was that through a third party I got the e-mail address of the accountant, and when I e-mailed her I got an answer the same day. But she explained that, owing to an error, my documents had been passed to someone else, and it would be difficult to retrieve them. The next day she confirmed that she wouldn’t be able to get them. Then I asked St Josemaría at least to help me keep calm (I hadn’t slept for several nights) and that there wouldn’t be a tax inspection. The second favor was that I was calm, in spite of knowing that I couldn’t get my papers back. But, to my surprise, another favor arrived: some days later I had another call from the accountant saying that my papers had been returned to her and we could meet up to check through them. I still hope there won’t be a tax inspection, but at least I know that if there is, I’ve got everything in order.

A safe and nice place
Dear friends of Saint Josemaria, I really wanted to write you about something nice that happened this week. A few days ago the manager of the residence where I live told me that the building was sold and I'd have received soon an eviction note with the order to leave my room in 30 days. I was very worried about my future, I asked for help but even my best friends turned me down. In New York if you have a middle income and no credit history it is very difficult to find a place safe and nice to live. After few days of rejections from brokers and landlords, I felt so helpless and sad that I started staying awake most of the night and I couldn't even focus during working hours. I called my Mom in Italy, she understood my pain and she recommended me to pray with her for the intercession of our dear Saint Josemaria and Saint Mother Seaton (she call them my spiritual parents in New York). The day after I received a phone call for an open house, I went with more surprise than hope. The day after they call me to tell me I got the place and this happened just one day before the ugly official eviction note. Nobody could believe it, a nice safe place not far from my workplace, at an affordable price. My new roommate is a kind girl and my closest neighbor... the only catholic church around that area!!! I really feel blessed and happy. A big hug in the Lord.

After a novena to St Josemaría
I am writing to testify what happened to us after a novena to St Josemaría, the founder of Opus Dei. My husband had been ill for several weeks. He was taking antibiotics but they didn’t have any effect. He couldn’t go to work. I had heard of St Josemaría before, but one day my sister encouraged me to do a novena to him. So I found the prayer-card on the internet and prayed it. My husband began to get better. Today he has gone back to work and his is practically cured. All my gratitude to St Josemaría for having interceded for him. I also thank our Lord Jesus Christ for having heard my prayers.

Losing my mobile
Most Fridays I go and do sports training with a friend. Today we were just running back after making our usual circuits. I was going over some uneven ground and when we were about 20 minutes from home I realized I didn’t have my mobile – it had probably dropped out as I came down one of the slopes. My mobile is not worth much but has a lot of information I would be sorry to lose. I persuaded my friend, who was rather reluctant, to go back with me to the place I thought I’d lost it. Needless to say, as we ran all the way back I was praying to St Josemaría to help me find it. When we got there we stood at the top of a slope to be able to see the whole ground, and my friend pointed down. “Look, there it is,” he said. I told him I’d been praying to St Josemaría for this, and that now I was going to thank him for this clear favor at the beginning of 2007. Afterwards, I though that if St Josemaría’s response was so prompt over losing a mobile, how much keener will he be to help with more serious and urgent matters, that we all have, like improving our faith, our relationship with Jesus Christ, service to the Church, relations between married couples, apostolate, or faithfulness to our vocation. I’m more convinced every day that turning to St Josemaría for help is a sure recourse in all our needs.

A small but obvious favor
To do a particular job of work, I took off my rings – both of which are very significant for me – and put them in my trouser pocket. After finishing the job, I only found one of them there. I couldn’t believe it, but immediately I started looking for the other one and praying the prayer-card to St Josemaría. Just as I finished it, I found the ring in a place where it could hardly be seen. It is a small but obvious favor, I think. Thank you, Father.
