Christ Is Passing By

In 1973, Saint Josemaría prepared this book, drawing on his abundant preaching. It consists of 18 sermons preached between 1951 and 1971 that follow the feasts of the liturgical year, from Advent to the Solemnity of Christ the King.

Word and life. The text is notable for its simple entry into the heart of Christian truth. Scripture inspires every page, not as erudition, but as a way of life.

While not constituting a theological treatise properly speaking, it nonetheless delves deeply into the truth that saves, rendering it accessible to everyone. If one were to pick out a connecting thread between the texts, it would have to be that of divine filiation, the marvelous reality that can guide the life of the Christian passing through the middle of the world: I am a child of God.

The great topics of Christianity run through these pages: the Christian vocation, the example of Jesus Christ, marriage as a divine calling, work as a way of sanctification and apostolate, the freedom of the children of God, the ascetical struggle, the Eucharist, the Holy Spirit, the Blessed Mother ... Not only at the beginning of the first homily, but also at each juncture one discerns the gentle voice of a saint that encourages as he preaches: “‘Make me to know your ways, O Lord, teach me your paths’ (Ps 24:4). We ask the Lord to guide us, to show us his footprints, so we can set out to attain the fullness of his commandments, which is charity.”
