I’m 25. All my life I’ve received many blessings from God, whether with my family, in my studies, etc. However, last year, after having worked for a time in a place I really liked, I found myself unemployed. I thought it would be only temporary, but the days went by, and I started to lose hope.
What was worse, every day I lost a little of my keenness to find another job, to go out with my friends, or to plan anything at all. I went through a time of great sadness and discouragement. This went on for several months, until August came round and I had the chance to go the the World Youth Day in Madrid. There I realized that all that time had not been a punishment from God, but it had helped me see that all my achievements should be for his glory, not mine. I realized I had to give the best of myself, to try and find another job and do it as well as possible.
I began praying the prayers of St Josemaria’s Novena for Work , and the very day after I finished it I was asked if I would go back to my previous job, and I’ve been working there ever since.
Now I devote my best efforts at work every day to serve God with every report I write and every person I deal with. Now I can meet God in my ordinary work.
