Mashtoz Vahe Lazaryan is director of the publishing house “Service to Christian Armenia” and the website www.mashtoz.org, for Armenians around the world. St Josemaria’s book Way of the Cross and the homily "Passionately Loving the World", translated into Armenian, have recently been added to their digital library.

Who is your website aimed at?
The website is basically a digital library that makes books, catechetical material and works of Christian spirituality available free to visitors. It has been operative since April 2004 and gets thousands of visits every month from people in every country in the world where there are Armenian communities. Many of the visitors are priests, religious and teachers - Catholic, Orthodox and Protestant. The website team are all Catholics and work in cooperation with the diocese of Armenian Catholics of Eastern Europe.

Why have the works of St Josemaria, founder of Opus Dei, been translated into Armenian?
For some time we have been wanting to publish on our website a text of the Stations of the Cross that was a bit different from the traditional ones, but that could be used for meditation. When we found out about St Josemaria's book we decided this was the one. With the support of Studium Foundation, we have been able not only to publish the first Armenian translation of this text in our digital library, but also to print and distribute it in our parishes in Armenia, Georgia, Nagorno-Karabakh, Russia and Ukraine. We know that the text has already been read thousands of times on the web by visitors from all over the world.
After that we translated the homily “Passionately loving the world”, because we felt that, starting with the title itself, it sums up St Josemaria’s spirituality. Then we published his book Holy Rosary, and the two homilies he wrote on prayer, wanting to provide Armenian Christians with St Josemaria’s message about Christian contemplation in the middle of the world, a message with which I am now very familiar.

What would you say St Josemaria means to Armenian Catholics?
He is one of the greatest teachers of spirituality for our time. Especially for lay-people, who are his strong point. With the passing of time, although Christ’s Gospel is always the same, the Holy Spirit likes, in his Divine Goodness, to raise up in different eras people who make the paths of the spirit more easily understood – more accessible – to the men and women of their time. St Josemaria is one of these brothers of Christ and mankind who helps many others, and can help so many more, in their search for the path back to their Father’s house.

Thank you, with all my heart, and please help me with your prayers.

In Armenia, the Catholic Patriarchate of Eastern Armenians has published five thousand copies of St Josemaria's homily "Passionately Loving the World", another five thousand of Holy Rosary, and five thousand more of the two homilies "A Life of Prayer” and “Towards Holiness” in one volume called “In intimacy with God”.
