My handbag was stolen

December 24 I was robbed of my handbag at gunpoint. It didn’t have a lot of money in it, but all my cards and some other things I was really sorry to lose. I have great confidence in “my friend St Josemaria”, as I call him, so I asked him to help me get it back. I promised him that I would write down the favor, and I said the prayer on the prayer-card. It was a horrible day: I had to report it to the police, get my cards canceled, apply for a new ID card and driving license… it seemed endless. On top of that I had been having family problems for some time, so the stolen handbag seemed like the final touch that was going to spoil my Christmas. That evening, shortly before setting off to join my family for Christmas, my brother called and gave me the telephone number of a woman who had found, strewn on the ground, almost everything that had been in my handbag except my money and mobile. She’d contacted him because his number was there, on a piece of paper. I went to meet her and she gave me the things and explained how she’d found them. On the way back I went along the street where it had happened. I knew that if St Josemaria was granting me this favor, he would finish it off. Sure enough, there, under a parked car, was the bag itself and two items missing from what the woman had given me. In fulfilment of my promise, I am writing in with what happened. What strikes me is how sure I felt that I would get everything back. It goes without saying that before all this, St Josemaria helped me in countless little things like finding a parking-space when it seemed impossible… and other things that were not so little.

My daughter’s career

Some years ago my daughter decided to work with horses and train in classical dressage. This is a job that entails long, hard training and is very expensive. I thought that if we could acquire a good competition horse for her, it would make it easier for her to advance in this difficult field. I prayed to St Josemaria to help us. My daughter also prayed, and soon after this she went somewhere where she watched a four-year-old colt being trained. From the moment she saw it, she felt this was the horse she needed. Because it was so young, and unknown, it was still within our price range. Against all the odds we acquired the colt, and in time it became the great horse we were hoping for. With my daughter’s contribution, and through doing extra jobs, we managed to pay for her training and entry fees for contests. I want to thank St Josemaria for the favor he obtained for us, because all of this meant my daughter was able to make a good start in her professional life. Now I continue to pray that St Josemaria will finish off what he has begun, as he always loved to do, so that my daughter can continue to hold her place in this difficult career that she has chosen.

I was educated in a school run by people of Opus Dei and all my life I’ve felt strongly attracted by the life and work of St Josemaria. So every time I need some favour or special little miracle from God, I pray for it through St Josemaria’s intercession, and he always intercedes for me. Some days ago I had a personal worry, and I resolved that every time I started to turn it over in my mind, I would stop worrying and say a prayer to St Josemaria instead. Yesterday my problem was solved, and I know that it was all down to the intercession of St Josemaria and my darling Lady of Guadalupe. Thank you, St Josemaria, once again you sent me help when I needed it, and my whole family too.

I would like to thank St. Josemaria for helping me and my family. I had a massive heart attack. And it took 2 weeks to get a bed at the Health Science Hospital. From where I live we need to be flown out by air ambulance. I got a stent installed in the heart artery. Please pray because I still have many months for recovery. I'm spreading your prayer around too. I don’t really remember where I got the prayer card and website. But I always talk about St Josemaria and give the prayer to people that need help. God bless.

In less than a month

We are so grateful for Saint Josemaria’s intercession in renting out our house. Because it was left empty when we had to leave our hometown, the windows were constantly being smashed. As we were not based locally it was hard for us to keep up with payments for services. After praying to Saint Josemaria to help us, the house was rented out in less than a month. We faithfully believe that our Lady chose the current tenants, because they have put a mosaic of our dear Virgin Mary of Guadalupe in the middle of the house. Thank you, Saint Josemaria!

I got a job on the sixth day

I was out of work. On the internet I found the Novena for Work to Saint Josemaria and began praying it. On the sixth day after beginning, I got a call offering me a job. In my job I’ve met many people looking for better job opportunities. I gave two of them the Novena: one has already found a job and the other has three interviews lined up. This second person passed on the Novena to a friend who was jobless, and she got a job too. I thank God and Saint Josemaria every day for having done this for me and being there for me.

The 100-sol note

My employer gave me a 100-sol note to buy some medicines for her at the drugstore. When I got there I found the pastilles she wanted only cost 2.60 soles, so I thought it was out of place to pay with a 100-sol note, and I took a 10-sol note out of my purse and paid with that. When I got back I told my employer I hadn’t used the large note but had paid with a 10-sol note of my own. But when I was going to return her money to her, I couldn’t find it – it wasn’t in my purse or in my pockets. I couldn't afford to repay her all that money myself, so I walked back to the drugstore, praying to St Josemaria all the way that the note would turn up. When I went into the drugstore I saw the 100-sol note on the floor, just where I had been standing when I paid for the pastilles, and nobody had picked it up. I thanked St Josemaria very much, because I’m sure he interceded for me.

I prayed to Saint Josemaria with great devotion that I would be able to marry my fiancé. Saint Josemaria interceded for me, and now we are married. I continue praying to him to be able to have children normally, since we are having problems with this. I keep praying, and I know he will intercede for us that God’s Will may be done and that we may accept and love his Will in our marriage.

I have been living in my new country for just three years now, and I think that never before have I been so aware of the number of days in a year and how quickly they can go by. I say this because from the day I arrived here I have been constantly subject to legal deadlines regarding my stay in the country. I’ve been submitting papers and making all sorts of different negotiations to be able to prolong my stay. After nearly three years I had tried everything: tourist visa, voluntary worker, student visa. I was unable to get a visa through a firm as their employee because the process was too complicated and difficult. Having gone through all the options, the only thing left was to try to get a visa for professionals, which is given to those practising the liberal professions who normally work without a work contract. I am a lawyer, so this seemed a good option. To apply, I first had to be accepted as a member by the college of lawyers. To apply to them, I had to obtain a contract of collaboration with a lawyer in this country who committed himself or herself to assess me for two years. This was the first big challenge, and within a week, it had been accomplished.

I received the payment I was hoping for

I retired several years ago and for months I put off applying for my monthly pension payment. Two years ago I started the application to bring it up to date. Other people who applied after me received a satisfactory response, but my application seemed to have been buried. I began to pray the prayer to St Josemaria every day for this intention, and quite soon I was told that my application had been granted. At last, thanks to St Josemaria’s intercession, I am receiving the payment legally owed to me.

So many favors

I have received so many favors through St Josemaria’s intercession that I can only give him infinite thanks. I have been praying his prayer for 29 years now, he is so close to Jesus, and I thank him a thousand times over for hearing my prayers.

On the point of giving birth

My baby was due between January 18 and January 25, according to the doctors. We had several false alarms but, ten days early, I realized at work that something was happening. When I got home we went to the hospital, thinking it would turn out to be another false alarm, because the midwife had told us the week before that there was still some time to go and we shouldn’t worry. But this time, the baby really was on its way. I couldn’t go into surgery because they had a lot going on just at that point. While I waited in the ward with my mother, I took out the prayer-card of St Josemaria to pray that everything would go well, and I realized it was January 9 – the date of St Josemaria’s birth! Thank God, through his intercession, the baby was born without any problems.

My father, who was a devotee of St. Josemaria, died in January this year. I had just given birth to my second daughter, and I was absolutely devastated by his death. A month after he died I began wanting to know more about who St. Josemaria was and what Opus Dei is. When I was looking for information I found the prayer of the Novena for Work and decided to do it, because I only had a temporary job and I needed a permanent job for our peace of mind at home. I said the prayer every day for five months, and got a job interview in August. The interview process went very well. I was convinced I’d get the job, but in the end they didn’t take me on. I felt very down, and thought it had all been for nothing. However, something inside me said I ought to keep on praying with a lot of faith and my prayers would be heard. And indeed, just when my temporary contract was about to end, I got another job opportunity as a social worker with an international organization. I am very happy and I thank God for it, and St. Josemaria for interceding for me and helping me in that need. So I say to all the people that I tell this happy story to: St. Josemaria does listen, and he helps you at the moment that’s best for you.
